Hi Rael,
I had a noisy power steering issue that I sorted at the weekend. Original post here http://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=31897
Simple, worked a treat and still silent.
Hope it helps?
Hi All,
Yesterday and today I have noticed that the steering is noisy (assume this is the pump) when the car is cold. Once warmed up it is silent as usual. I suppose I would describe it as a whine. There seems to be no issues with the actual steering, just noise.
Is it the PAS pump? Should I be worried about it? Cheers guys!

Thanks for the response.
So your PAS fluid level was low was it? I shall have a check of mine when I get in and maybe buy some of that Dexron III stuff tomorrow. Assume as you mention Halfords its easily and readily available from there?
Cheers![]()

Yeah, mine was just slightly low, but rather than just top it up with Dexron III, I bought some Dexron III compatible additive/seal lubricant too. Got them both from Halfords for around £6-7 each.
Job took less than 5 mins and perfect straight away.

Well, as suddenly as the noise appeared, it has gone! Upped and disappeared like a fart in the wind.
But thanks for the info, I will check levels at the weekend anyway and at least I know what to do now 8)

Having said it went away, it came back! Checked the fluid level and none was visible in the resevoir
Bought some of that DIII stuff and topped it up and so far, touch wood, it's gone back to being totally silent again.
Thanks again for the info

Rael, I'd be worried about where that fluid has gone!
Glad that cured it! As for the missing fluid, I'm guessing you've checked for any leaks? Keep an eye on the level and think about the seal lubrcant additive if you think you may be losing some.
No leaks from mine and still lovely and silent![]()

Thanks both for the warning on the loss on fluid. Don't worry, I don't take things like this lightly, I am keeping a very close eye on fluid levels. I cannot see any sign of fluid loss or leakage, but it's a bit of a challenge to get under an XJ!
Will keep this thread updated, as it may be useful to other members.

Been a while and the steering has been silent. Strange that no warning appeared through the computer? Anyway, problem solved!
