    disable alarm on x-type

Hi, i have a 2003 3.0 X-type sport. over the last few nights the alarm keeps going off for no reason. it went of 5 times last night between 3am and 6.30am so im not popular with people at the moment. Is there any way to disable it? tried not locking doors, pressing key fob once only and twice for double locking but it still armed and went off.

I had the same problem, although mine tended to go off during the day in bright sunlight. Whilst yours might be a switch (e.g. the one under the bonnet near to the left hand hinge might be making intermittent contact, or the boot lid switch is also possible) it's more likely to be the interior motion sensor. I reckon that any air movement inside the car can set it off.

I had my sensor changed under warranty - at least, the dealer said that it had been changed - but the problem recurred a while later. My fix to disable it was to put a splodge (technical term) of BluTak onto each of the two lenses that sense interior movement. They are in the overhead light unit at the top centre of the windscreen. I've had it like that for a couple of years now and the only side effect is that when I unlock, the indicator lights usually flash 5 times instead of the normal one (or two?) to show that it has detected a fault in the alarm system.

Yes, the alarm still sounds if (for example) I remote-lock the car before I've closed all the doors. Originally when I blanked off the motion sensors the system didn't seem to mind but after a few weeks it seemed to know that those sensors were not working properly and started the extra flashing when I locked it - although not every time. I did try removing the BluTak earlier this year and everything returned to normal but one day the alarm went off again so I stuck it back on.

I have never liked alarms that cannot be manually disabled particularly when they are connected to the main horn......Too temperamental especially on older cars

My last car had the alarm going off in the early hours...turned out to be the bonnet switch (t*t covering) on the slam panel.

Main horn, ie. if you disconnect it you have no horn (nothing worse than having no horn when you need one)

Yesterday afternoon my alarm went off for no apparent reason. after a brief inspection and finding nothing wrong it went off another twice in the next ten minutes or so. Then a cat crawled from under the car and it hasn't gone off since. It may be a coincidence but I would like to know what it was up to under there ( it didn't have any tools or anything ) and to my knowledge it`s not deaf or at least it wasnt.

If it was a Tom it was probably servicing the cat in the exhaust system.
