    Help - rear door deadlocked!

Rear drivers-side door on my Y plate 3.0 SE is deadlocked shut, and will not open no matter what I try. All other doors functioning normally. Anyone know how I open the door, or get the internal panel off with the door shut?

Unfortunately, that is not the problem. All the other doors work fine - from inside, or with key fob. However, this door is shut, and cannot be opened. So how do I fix it if I cant get it open?

I can lower the window, which gives me enough gap to get a hook into the door (ie classical car breaking!) - but some cars have a protected mechanism to prevent this. is it possible to manually open the door?

Can nobody help me with this? At present, the only option appears to be to take the door hinges off (access with the front door open) and hope to gain access to the lower screw holding the inner door panel on - but this is a bit drastic!!

Got the same prob with my passenger side rear door, which started a couple of weeks ago, but a couple of days ago, it started working again!!
I'm looking in to have it repaired in a couple of days, so I'll let you know what the prob is.

    Kind regards

    Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with my rear drivers side door. It has been like this for years. Some days it works and some it doesn't. It has gone for 3 months not working before now!

Yes you can un-deadlock it. You need to remove the door trim which is a bit of a swine when the door is locked shut but it is do-able.

The door lock mechanism has a couple of slots in it and you can stick a screwdriver in to flip the locking lever open or shut depending on which hole you poke into.

I have now bought a new lock which I have not put in yet so I will pop outside take a picture of it so that you can see.

I keep meaning to fit the thing but I've had it for 3 months now as you will see from the dust on it!!

I will upload it to my website here...

I've had this too several times normally on cold mornings. The Jag dealer had it in 3 times but could never fix it. All I got out of it was greasy mechanic finger marks all over my dove grey interior so I gave up!

Also other weird electrical things happen occasionally - things like the sunroof button only working one way and the sunroof just cycles through opening and closing and you have to try to let go of the button at the right time Put it in the garage overnight or for a few hours and everything sorts itself out again. The boot would not open the other day (only done this the once) either by button press or keyfob press which was a bit of a swine as I was at Sainsburys with 5 boxes of shopping! 3 hours later at home I went out and it opened fine.

I reckon there must be a central computer in there somewhere running a Microsoft operating system

thanks guys - problem I have is that my MOT is due, and I think a permanently shut door is a failure!

dchester - How did you get the screw under the door trim out with the door shut?

Perhaps a squirt of WD 40 into the door with the window down might help things along - or then again, might just dirty the windows!!!!

I don't think it is a failure as mine was stuck locked when it had it's MOT last year and passed.

I just shoved a Phillips in there and undid it. The screw would not come out past the plastic sill cover though but it was undone and I was able to pull the trim off. Lost a couple of clips on the way but you wouldn't notice.
My main fear was that there was another screw further along but thankfuly there isn't.

Must remember to put my new lock in at the weekend but knowing my luck lately it will be either raining or stuck shut again
