I've just upgraded AVG to this version and almost come to a full stop on some applications and when browsing or e-mail.
Has anybody else had, or know of, this problem?
If this is just "how version 8 works" - does anybody else use a simple free anti virus software package that will not impact on performance in the same way

My son is of the opinion that AVG 8 is total cr@p. It causes just the problems you describe and even system crashes. He has installed a program called avast as in avast there you landlubbers. Do a google search to find a download for avastOriginally Posted by Lol

I also use AVG and it seems to work for me
Get me a coffee and no-one gets hurt.
AVG 8 is working fine for me too - If your machine is running like a dog, it's probably during a full scan, I've changed the daily scan to a weekly one in the small hours, there's no need to scan everything every day. If you download anything or get an email attachment just save it and use the right click menu for an instant scan of that file only. AVG is contantly watching your processes for viral activity and will stop anything it knows about as soon as it tries to run anyway.
AVG 8 (7 in the past) here running OK on 2 Vista 32, 1 Vista 64, 2 XP.
Cheers
