Unluckiest Jaguar Owners Ever???? We now have a ruined car!

Postby EOS20D » Thu Jun 07, 2007 4:52 pm

Just went to collect the car after its third trip to the dealer for over heating brakes. They had pressured washed the car for us. I gave it the once over and to my horror I found that the car is completely covered in scratches and chips.

The car is ruined IMHO, I have never seen anything like it in my life. We are absolutely devastated. I know no ones has died but it feels like it. Our pride and joy ruined by some idiot with a pressure washer.

Took it to our local garage that repairs our other cars and he said that a pressure washer nozzle has been bounced all over the car, including the b*oody roof for christs sake. Every single panel has been damaged.

As we are talking chips the whole car needs to be resprayed. I can't tell you how b******y awful we feel right now :(

Going to try and get some photos and put them here later..
Regards
Trevor

Surely if it was a dealership the cost of respraying the car will be covered by the dealership's insurance?

A friend at work had the same problem but from a hand wash, he had a new MG and took it in for the service and they wash the car for you before returning it, came back covered in scratches, the chap washing the cars was putting his cloths/spongers blade on top of a brick wall! picking up allsorts of stuff, they said they would polish them out for him, did that ok but ruined all the window rubbers with the buffer, had to have them replaced as well, how when it goes for a service he asks for it not to be cleaned

Foo*in Hell ! sounds like they let some idiot loose on work experience. That's got to be down to the dealer to sort out the respray at their cost. How have they explained what happened ? Other than that it's a total lack of respect for your property.

Agreed. Take it right back and speak to the boss! Not just the service manager.

On top of that, say that between having your car sand-blasted and at the mercy of mechanics who seem incapable of mending a simple problem you would honestly like to know what the boss is going to do to restore any faith what-so-ever and just what it's worth to him for you not to be talking to Jaguar proper and recommending a cull.

Actually, where is this dealership? You don't have to name them, I just want to make sure that I don't even pop in to use the loo and find that someone decides to throw hot coffee all over me or tar and feather my son for no readily apparent reason.

Poor show... I feel for you. My X-type cam back scratched down 1 side a couple of years ago and an oil stain on the beige drivers side carpet mat.... they fixed it all and coverered the cost in the end... but it did take 3 weeks .. as they sprayed it the wrong colour first..lol... then called me a liar.. until I took the MD to see it... he was gobsmacked.. I got a free Jaguar Fleece as compensation for the hassle... and the work was made good in the end.

All's well that ends well... and I hope that it ends well for you too. Good luck... and don't take no for an answer. If need be, get a second/third opinion on the cause too.

With a name like EOS20D I guess there will be pictures of high quality soon... where abouts are you in the country?
Kindest regards,
MrPix

12RM and MrPix are spot on - go right back to the MD himself and take him outside to see your car for himself. If you start lower down the chain of command you may well end up having to go to the MD in the end anyway - so you're cutting to the chase by dealing directly with him from the off. Oh yes - and as has also been suggested, mention that how he responds will decide you on whether or not you bring the matter to the attention of Jaguar's dealer franchise supervisors.

ciao,
Stirling

Some years ago I had cause to complain to a service manager. Got nowhere and he advised that was it, end of story.
I walked out of the service managers area, round the front and into the showroom asked to see the boss man. Was shown upstairs and retold the story to the dealer principal or whatever he was called. He called the service manager up and when he walked into the room he deflated when he saw me sat drinking coffee.
Complaint sorted!

Met the same guy on a stand (different company by this time) at a motor show later and wound him up a bit about poor service managers but he could not work out why we found it funny.

If that comment is direct at me.

For FWIW that car was the last new car bought in the family, I no longer buy new cars nor do not use main dealers apart from the parts counter. The treatment that customers got at that time was poor but I would hope it's better now. This "service" was over a range of different cars I had when I bought brand new.
Trevors story seems to prove otherwise but hopefully the situation will be resolved to his advantage.

What has the garage said they are going to do about it? Have they even offered to do anything? :?
If not, I would speak to trading standards as soon as you can, then call in and make an appointment with the MD.
The garage have a duty of care to look after your property and clearly that hasn't happend and they have even admitted being responsible for the damage so I'm curious as to what they have suggested?
