Engine stalled in Antwerp yesterday after driving from Calais and crawling along Antwerp's cobbles for some 10 mins. Started immediately and perfect since then returning home today. Anybody with ideas why ?

Absolute guess not routed in any kind of experience or technical knowledge:

Crud chucked up from the bottom of the fuel tank?

It could be a few things, my guess would be that it could be the start of the MAF sensor starting to fail, if so it is an easy fix.

I had a similiar problem on my 1997 XJR (six cylinder). It would just inexplicably cut out and refuse to start for varying amounts of time. Turned out to be dodgy connections/failed crank sensor. Had it replaced for about £60 at an independant specialist and never happened again for 7 years. Main Jaguar dealer wanted to strip supercharger to get to the throtle potentionemeter to check if dust had got in !!!.

Hasn't happened again, but not driven in a similar situation since then.
