Jag Dealership closure

Postby Dalesstephen » Fri Jan 09, 2009 11:56 pm

I received this email today from my nearest Jaguar dealership. Am sorry as I have found them to be very good. Sign of the times I suppose and I wonder how many more will go...

As you may be aware we got told yesterday that unfortunately Minster Jaguar Harrogate as a dealership is closing. This is resulting in all staff being made redundant.

Our official closing date is Friday 13th February 2009.

The dealer I got my 308 from closed on 31st December. Stratstone Birmingham at Monaco House. Was a totally rubbish dealership but nevertheless a bit of a flagship in the area :(

Great pity about Minster Harrogate as we have been very well covered in this area by dealers, still you have Leeds, York and Bradford.

 And a good independent in Wakefield. The main dealer in Wakefield is not bad as well.

Not good at all, I got mine from York a fortnight ago. Seems to be a lot of coverage in this area though, York, Hull, Leeds harrogate (until now).

Also got an independant in Hull, Jagutech, anyone ever used them ?

Victor, I use the main dealer in Wakefield can be a bit hit and miss on the technical front and always seem to be changing their senior management,
just out of interest who is the independant in Wakefield

Apparently Minster Jaguar decided that the Leeds, York, Wakefield and Harrogate outlets were too many sites, and decided to shut Harrogate which allegedly was actually the only branch operating at a profit. This is what I was told by an employee the day after they had all been summonsed in and told they were out of a job ... so I was told.

Their customer care skills have always been excellent, and I have generally found them to be very good on the servicing side, except rather ironically this last time when they quoted me for over £1000 of unnecessary work (bent and loose lower front suspension arms and new front tyres) - I was a bit suspicious when they mentioned the tyres, which are fairly new ... when taken elsewhere, it turned out that the front drivers' side wheel just needed rebalancing and the tracking resetting - due to hitting a rather large crater in a side road in Leeds. Quite an expensive mis-diagnosis, but I'll be charitable and put their error down to the stress of having just being told they were out of work.

I am very sorry that all the genuinely nice and helpful people at the Harrogate dealership are out of work. Minster have lost my business, as I'm not going to treck across to York to have the car serviced during the week when I work in Harrogate, its just not practical, and the York dealership is in the middle of nowhere on the outer ringroad - its not like you can even use public transport from there easily, and they aren't going to have enough courtesy cars to go round all the "new" customers from the Harrogate area and their existing client base.

I would welcome details of any independent Jaguar specialist in Yorkshire.

Having said all of that, twice I tried to buy a car from them, and they didn't want to sell me one, as I didn't fit their sales team's "demographic". Another dealership got my cash instead ...

Well I work for a Minster Jaguar dealership as alot of the older forum members will know. It is a shame that Harrogate was closed but in all fairness no dealership is profitable in this current climate. I'm sure it was closed for all the right reasons. I have heard alot about so called independents but in all fairness the majority have no experience working with Jaguars within a dealership. They buy the Autologic diagnostic systems and therefore believe they are now experts.....

You are much better off sticking with dealerships or a genuine Jaguar trained technician

Just found out a couple of those guys from harrogate have set up there own garage just of skipton road in harrogate, ex jag technicians specialising in jaguar servicing / repairs etc. Is about time to have an independent in the harrogate area, car is booked in for a service so will see how it goes....

Mmmm, I see Jagfix is following forum rules and not blowing his own trumpet, but he is an independent himself and I paid him a visit on Saturday, he really knows his stuff, my car's up for service in 2k miles and it'll be going to him, just off J4 of the M18 near Doncaster.
Hope, you don't mind the plug Jagfix!
