whats the difference between a XKR and a XKR S

Postby mi6-bond » Fri Jul 30, 2010 3:52 pm

i love these cars guys(not that i can afford one lol) but i like doing some searching and reading, and all i have found is that an XKR S is a limited edition motor with a 4.2 v8 yet an XKR has a more powerfull 5.0 v8 and is a full production car.so what makes the XKR S any better(or different)in my book the XKR with an optional pack(speed or black) seems the better motor. im confused with these two guys, any help.

i think your a bit confused the xkrs is the 5.0 xkr with the limiter at 170odd ? not 155.

the last of the old shape xkr
XKR 4.2-S

In Europe the 4.2-S was unveiled at Geneva on 1 March 2005. This was the last XK to be rolled out that was based upon the original 1996 design. Features for the 4.2-S included new exterior and interior colours and two distinct veneer options for the instrument panel, polished door treadplates with chequered-flag emblems and embossed, leather-edged floor mats. The revised white Jaguar badge on the bonnet also feature chequered accents. New 19" Atlas wheels plus cross-drilled Brembo brake discs, red wheel badges and red brake callipers were also fitted or

Jaguar also produced a concept car called the XKR-R which was very similar to the production XKR, but boasting a more powerful 450 bhp (340 kW) engine, a manual gearbox, a limited-slip differential and improved handling. The naming convention is similar to that of the S-Type R special edition. Unlike the S-Type R, it will never be realised on a Mk.1 XK chassis although a model of the same name could appear on the Mk.2 XK later this year.

hi mate, thanks for the reply.however that link you provided does show a top speed of 174mph,but it allso states the car has jaguar's 4.2 v8 and not the 5.0 v8 that you will get in the new XKR.

your right it does, :?: what it is .is the last of the 4.2 xkr with the limiter upped a bit .all the supercharged jaguar's will do a lot more than the 155 limit.

so really its the new style XKR with the mk1 engine upgraded.so really the best option would be a new XKR with the speed pack option which gives you 174mph the same.except the car dont get the s badge on the end.

No, it's a 2008 special edition version of the the 2006MY 4.2L XKR with the speed limiter upped to 174mph, revised suspension and brakes, a new body-kit and only available in black.

The 2010MY cars have the newer 5.0L engines.

The XKR-S was a limited special edition model in 2008, 200 were made and only 50 in RHD.

It was based on the 4.2 XKR of the time with the same engine and gearbox, the only difference being a top speed of 174mph.

It had a unique body kit of front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear spoiler. This now the same body kit available for the speed packs and new XKR 75.

It also had a unique chassis with faster steering ratio, much stiffer springs and re-tuned dampers, larger rear anti-roll bar, stiffer rear suspension bushes, Alcon brakes, wider forged wheels with special Pirelli tyres and new damper and steering software.

It also had more or less all available interior options, with R-S badging, and dark headlining not available on other XKRs.

So quite different to standard and actually very similar to the new 75, apart from the new 5.0 XKR upgrades.
